Sudal-E: Our Eco-Friendly Conference Initiative
“Sudal,” meaning otter in Korean, is the mascot of both the City of Daegu and IEEE VR 2026. The letter “E” stands for Environment, reflecting the conference’s commitment to sustainability.
In the 1970s, Daegu’s rivers were severely polluted due to rapid industrial development. Through the efforts of the government and local citizens, the rivers were gradually restored, and otters—an important indicator of a healthy river ecosystem—returned to Daegu’s waterways. Inspired by this environmental recovery, IEEE VR 2026 honors the city’s symbol by promoting a more sustainable and environmentally responsible conference.
To support this initiative, IEEE VR 2026 introduces “SuDal-E,” a social AR app experience for attendees. The application demonstrates how XR technology can raise environmental awareness through an interactive mission in which participants rescue endangered otters, clean polluted habitats, and build their own sanctuary.
The conference also implements several sustainable practices. Conference bags are made from recycled materials, and reusable cups are provided for participants. A cup-washing station is available in the coffee break area at Grand Ballroom A (3F), EXCO, encouraging participants to reuse their cups throughout the event.
Shuttle Bus Service
A shuttle bus service will be operated from March 21 to March 25 between the conference venue (EXCO), major hotels, and Dongdaegu KTX Station for the convenience of participants.
